When in doubt, wear a little black dress.

My girlfriend and I had been planning on taking a little trip to Coronado, just for the day to enjoy some good food and shopping over the holidays. I knew we’d be walking a lot, but didn’t want to sacrifice fashion (read looking cute) when picking the perfect daytime getaway outfit. I decided to dress comfortably with a touch of flirt. I opted for this little black dress, but paired it with opaque tights and riding boots, that way I could stay warm and still be able to walk without suffering the inevitable pain at the end of the day had I worn heels (as I previously thought I could do). Well, thank goodness I have half a brain, the shoes were perfect for all the exploring we did and my dress was a great fit for the range of activities from lunching al fresco to dining and everything in between (read flirting with cute boys).

The versatility of a little black dress

I thought I needed a punch of color to offset all the black. I’m wearing Mac Diva on the lips, no liner. Since Diva is such a dark color, I applied concealer prior. To lighten up a dark lipstick you can also apply Chapstick first.

Jewelry is Ellie by BGD and Charming Charlie

For jewelry (my favorite part of every outfit) I layered my recent faves. The longer one is from Charming Charlie and the short necklace is from my best friends jewelry line, Ellie By BGD. Check out my Instagram to be connected with the jewelry designer!

There you have it, a simple outfit for a day about town. Don’t be afraid to mix dressier pieces with more casual ones, because comfort will always trump stilettos in my book.
