If you live in Southern California, you’re wondering what the hell is going on with the weather. It’s like, is it going to get cold, or not? My closet and beauty routine are both upside down, and this climate confusion is wrecking havoc on my skin. To that end, I’ve put together a list of my current comfort essentials to get your through this awkward seasonal change.
I’m a total creature of habit, so it should come as no surprise that I’ve been using the same makeup for years now. MAC has been my go-t0 since I was 14 years old! But, under the current weather conditions, I noticed my skin has stopped responding well to everything I’m using. I have dry skin with a tendency to get oily at the end of the day, which makes it tricky to find the right products. With a little patience and investment in time, I started exploring other liquid foundations from Sephora over the last three months, and the winner is Diorskin Forever Perfect Match. It’s light and airy but build-able, so you can go as light or full-coverage as you want. I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now and have had zero breakouts and don’t get oily at the end of the day.
When it comes to lipstick, however, I’m a total hood rat! I’ve been exploring everything under the sun from cheap to expensive and beyond! So, when I find something I like I tend to buy a lot of it and like to tell everyone about it. The new SmashBox line Be Legendary is a brilliant feat in lip beauty. It’s got the perfect blend of matte and moisture and color options are perfect for our current weather and pop culture inflictions. I urge you all to get out there and go sample the line and find the color that right for you. The one I’m currently using on the daily is called “First Time.”
The 90’s are not just back, they’re taking a seat at the table and leaning in. I thought we were just resurrecting the bomber jacket and a few other alternative-chic pieces, but we’ve brought back the Calvin Klein sweater, too! This requires an OMG, can I get an Amen?! We lived in these damn sweaters for most of the early 90s and I have to say, while it’s been a complete shock to see everything, literally everything, we used to wear come back into style, I’m also quietly doing the running man with joy. That includes my training bra (which is actually sort of a nod to the 80s when the Jockey brand made that style cool).
SHOES / ACCESSORIES
No one is more excited than I am about flats and tiny backpacks. I’ve got a thing about being comfortable at the moment (or always, not sure). When it comes to shoes, though, I’m very particular about the style because I’ve got short (not so slender) legs. So the right cut makes a difference. With that in mind, I’m all about the slip-on. Every brand seems to have their own version, so finding the one that fits your style and body type is key. With an endless supply almost everywhere you turn, you don’t need me pointing you in the right direction. Here are my current faves.
