The Valentine’s we currently know is a sweet little made up holiday everyone just sort of buys into, albeit against their will in most cases. If you’re attached, there’s the pressure of doing something; if you’re single there’s the pressure of ignoring it and having those in relationships ask if you’re “doing something” while you’re minding your own business just getting coffee in the break room (insert side eye). Celebrating Valentine’s Day as a kid was way more fun than it is now! Remember when your biggest concern was writing your name on dozens of pre-cut “Will You Be My Valentine?” cards for every student in your class? Those were the days!

Valentines Day Candies

This year, whether you celebrate the day, are single, or in a relationship, change the narrative! For me, V-Day is just the time of year the stores get plastered in pink and red (one of my favorite color combos by the way). I think it’s also a fine time to treat yourself to something special. Pour yourself a glass of wine and watch a movie! Or up the ante and take yourself to the spa…

We just made it through holidays; we’re powering through our to-do lists for the New Year, and working hard on our goals. Now is the perfect time to take a beat and find some time to slow down, if only for a moment. I recently had the pleasure of spending the day at Glen Ivy Hot Springs Spa in Corona, California. I cannot begin to explain how impressed I was with my experience. I didn’t know what to expect since it was my first visit, but what I discovered was a fun, easy, and wallet-friendly getaway.

My day started with lunch at Ivy Kitchen, an indoor/outdoor restaurant nestled amidst the palm trees. Ivy Kitchen offers lots of healthy options, so I opted for something I wouldn’t normally eat. And friends, I never thought I’d say this but I had the best vegan burger one could imagine. I cannot stress enough how delicious this burger was. Like, I would go back and order the same thing next time, good!

After lunch, I headed to the Oaks Zone where I met Taylor for a facial. I’m an all-business-no-relaxation during my facial kind of girl, and my girl Taylor was the perfect fit. She explained all the products she was using on me and educated me on what ingredients work best for my skin in the winter. It was a really refreshing facial that left my skin feeling smooth and hydrated.

Don’t let me forget the pools! There are 19 of them to be exact. After my facial I indulged in the saline pool where I found myself nearly turn to jelly! It was my first time, so I was completely caught off guard by how RELAXING it was. I immediately found my muscles eased and my nervous system on vacation. Apparently, the Saline Pool ignites complete body relaxation due to its therapeutic Epsom salt-infused waters as well as magnesium and sulfate which sooth muscles and draw toxins from the body. Gals – it was pure heaven.

Glen Ivy Hot Springs, Club Mud

Can we talk about the mud? Glen Ivy Hot Springs knows how to entertain your inner child…welcome to Club Mud, where getting dirty never felt so good! This full-body therapy mud bath was also a first for me! By rubbing the mud on your skin it helps to draw out impurities and exfoliate dead skin cells — it’s also a ton of fun! Before I knew it I was laughing with ladies and giggling like a 10 year old.

One of least favorite upkeep items include getting my nails done. I’m totally serious when I say that I do not enjoy getting a manicure. In fact, if it wasn’t for Jimmy, I normally don’t like having my hair done either. Just the simple task of sitting in the same place for over an hour feels like being held hostage. But, while I hate the primping, I love the polish! That’s why I think Valentine’s is the perfect excuse to treat yourself to a really fancy mani/pedi or blow out. Make an appointment with that salon you heard was super dope, find a nail salon that offers a cocktail while you get a pedicure, and just do it. You will thank yourself later.

This year I decided to give myself the gift of a “care free, hair free” summer by taking advantage of a laser hair removal Groupon. It was time! I cannot suffer through another summer of shaving my legs every other day – I’m just done with that. If you want to explore the place I’m using, visit SEV Laser.

Ladies, whatever you decide to do for yourself,  actually do it. You hear it all the time, but it really is important to take time for you and completely tune out the world if for only one hour.
